Welcome to Alma Sports Club

Celebrating its 83rd anniversary this year, the Alma Sports Club has produced wide-eyed reactions from first time visitors. Stunned to discover this treasure, visitors and members can enjoy sporting and social life backed by the glorious flora of the Willis Teague green. The Club has an enticing environment and caters for everyone's needs from hearty revelry to international sports success.

During the club's 83 years there has been many international sports stars emerge from the club - Pat Rafter has enjoyed belting backhands on the three en tous cas tennis courts. Squash legend, Geoff Hunt called "Alma" home, as does World Champion, Sarah Fitzgerald.

One of the most popular past times at the club is Lawns bowls ranging from competitive pennant competitions to jolly "barefoot bowls" and sausage sizzles in the wake of the hit movie, Crackerjack.

Along with our bistro, function rooms, new outside terrace area (to be completed September 2010), tennis courts, synthetic bowling green and squash courts there is something for everyone at the Alma Sports Club.

President's Update - August 2010

Annual General Meeting.

Thank you to the 30 odd members that attended the AGM on Monday 12th July. The meeting lasted only 40 minutes which I took as a vote of confidence in the outgoing board and that the members saw that the club is heading in the right direction. The minutes of the meeting are attached.

Repairs & Renovations

The clubroom is looking much better and within the next few weeks the walls and door leading to the new terrace and bowling green will be replaced with sliding glass doors and windows. The gaming room has been re-arranged and a new plasma TV lounge area set up with comfortable settees and chairs.

The synthetic bowling green is well under way and should be finished by the middle of August. Plans are on show at the clubhouse for the outdoor terrace area have been submitted to council and I hope that this project with be finished by the time the bowling pennant season begins in October. This outdoor terrace will become one of the most popular spots to enjoy a nice meal and a drink whilst watching the bowling. The kitchen is also under going renovations and the bistro should re-commence in September.

Finally a plea to all members and visitors, come down to the club and see the enormous changes that are taking place and witness the atmosphere and excitement as the club rebuilds itself to become your home away from home.
